にほんごアートコンテスト２００４表彰式で私が行った、審査の全体講評の原稿

です。審査委員長の馬場雄二先生のお手紙も、ここで拝読させて頂きました。

今回の大賞作品は、小学校１年生が描いた＜ひよこ＞、準大賞は＜鳥＞＜う＞

（鵜飼の”う”）と、すべて飛翔するものとなり、今後のにほんごアートコンテストの

将来を象徴するような作品が選ばれたことが、私の心に大きく大きく残りました。

Congratulations, winners!

The grand prize and two run-up prizes are beautiful birds, Hiyoko, Tori and U. I feel it symbolizes

the future of this contest, which will fly all over the world. In fact, Japanese teachers in other countries

are really curious about Nihongo Art Contest very much.

By the way, I have a letter from Mr. Yuji Baba, the Chief Judge of the Nihongo Art Contest 2004.

Mr. Baba is a famous visual designer in Japan, especially for Kanji motif art. His original letter is written

in Japanese, therefore I will read the English translation.

たくさんの作品を見せてもらって、僕もハッピーな気分になりました。

Seeing your drawings made me really happy.

どの作品も楽しさが感じられ、描いているときのみなさんの笑顔が目に浮かんできました。

Everything was a lot of fun. I could imagine your big smile when you were drawing them.

楽しい気持ちで面白いことを考えていると、自然に手が動いて絵を描きたくなり画面が輝いてきます。

For me, when I get a good feeling while juggling ideas in my head, my hands magically begin to draw, and the paper begins to brighten.   

私も３０年以上文字の遊びをデザインしてきましたが、文字には読むだけでなく、見るものとして楽しめますし、

人に情報やイメージを伝える力もあるのです。

I have more than 30 year experience in designing applied Japanese characters. The characters are not only to read but to entertain.

They have the power to transmit information and inspire imagination in people. 

みなさんもこのコンテストで体験した面白さを生かして、文字と仲良しになると、日本語の面白さがわかり、その絵で自分も

楽しみ、ほかの人も楽しませて、きっと気持ちのいい楽しい毎日になりますよ。

Contest and you can enjoy yourself and your classmates, and enrich your life.
